Out With The Old, In With The New

Just last summer, I had a house.

My house had gardens....

.....several gardens.

It also had a variety of containers with veggies.....

.....yummy veggies.

Plus a container water garden...

....and even some beautiful wildflowers. I also had a garden blog, "Millertime"-since 2006. But the economy took an awful turn, and I lost my job. After nearly two full years of searching, I finally found worthwhile full-time employment....the only catch is that it's over 300 miles away from my home and gardens. The story isn't all bad-I still own the house and gardens....

.....but now I have a small apartment where the bulk of my time will be spent. And until/unless the economy recovers and jobs near my home become available....

.....all I will have that even resembles a full time garden will be houseplants.

But don't cry for me Argentina-I'm preparing to embark on a new blog filled with lots of crazy adventures in houseplants, indoor seed starting in a small space, and some patio veggie trials.

Let's get this party started!

Garden on Lisa. The five years I lived in Colorado was all indoor apartment gardening. One year I annexed a friend's front yard for a vegetable garden. I got quite good at indoor growing. I've lost that touch since.

Thank you for the encouragement! I hope I can develop some indoor skills. I think I'd like to start by trialing those blue & red led grow lights.

And it looks like you have some room on your patio for containers! I've grown all kinds of veggies in containers! I'm glad you still own the house and garden (I had been wondering about that), and hopefully have someone living there who is also enough of a gardener to keep your plants going??

I totally feel you on the job search--it is amazing how many things I apply to that I never hear back on...

How did the cats like the car drive to your new home?!

I'm looking forward to your new gardening adventures.

Thanks Monica! I do have room on the patio for containers, along with all day southern exposure. I worry about people messing with things since I'm on the ground floor, hopefully it's just baseless paranoia :)

The job search was hell, I began to worry that I'd never find another job (despite over 20 years in my industry!) I think some age descrimination came into play, along with the fact that it's always easier to get a job when you currently have one.

The cats were considerably less than thrilled with the drive-they serenaded me with meows of discontent for the first hour or so. They are settling in quite nicely now.

My house is being watched over in-person and remotely (technology is great! :) I do miss it, but this job allowed me to keep my place and will fund renovations so I sure can't complain. Plus the new gardening techniques I'll learn will keep me entertained for sure.

Wow, a new adventure! If there's anyone completely capable of tackling new projects, I'm pretty sure it's you. (I still refer people to some of your how-to posts... especially the worm bins. :-)

So you're 300 miles away, and... in a new zone, to boot? Can't wait to keep up with your houseplant/deck plant experiments!!!

Gosh, thank you! I brought the worm bin with me here...I could sure do a follow-up about that, too :)
